Winter brings a whole new way to enjoy Colorado State Parks. Escape the crowds at the ski resorts (not to mention the traffic) and head for some of the best winter outdoor recreation spots in the state. With 42 parks from mountains to plains, you'll find the climate and the terrain you seek.
Year round activities such as hiking, geocaching and fishing continue at many lower elevation parks in the winter months, but be sure to experience Colorado's world-renown fluffy powder, blue skies and bright sunshine as you:
- Glide on cross country skis or strap on your snowshoes to crunch through a trail of untredded powder on more than 500 miles of trails.
- Discover Colorado wildlife such as moose and lynx, take up bird watching (we have some great parks that are along migratory routes), or hone your photography skills with winter's softer lighting.
- Feel the burst of adrenaline on a snowmobile or try your hand at ice boating.
- Take the kids out snow tubing or sledding, then give them the experience of skating among towering pines and mountain vistas on natural surface ponds and lakes.
- Bundle up and grab your rod and tackle box for some great ice fishing spots and tournaments.
