A popular Watchable Wildlife Area, Mueller is home to abundant wildlife including elk, black bear, hawks, and mule deer. Park visitors traverse the park’s numerous trails on foot, horseback and mountain bike. Mueller is a popular winter destination for snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding and tubing.
Interested in spending the night? There are 132 campsites in the park; 22 walk-out tent sites, 129 electric campsites and 11 electric campsites in the group campground. 17 electric campsites are open for winter camping . The park also has three cabins for rent year-round.
Mueller State Park welcomes leashed pets in campgrounds, picnicking areas, 4 of the 5 sledding areas and along the park’s roads, but not on the hiking trails or in the backcountry. By keeping pets off of the trails, we increase the chances of visitors seeing the various species of wildlife in the park and are better able to maintain this pristine Watchable Wildlife Area. We discourage leaving your pets in an unattended vehicle as intense sunshine can quickly heat up the inside of vehicles to as much as 20 degrees hotter than the outside temperature. Please plan and make appropriate arrangements for your pet during your stay with us.
Our education programs for the summer season have officially begun! Look for exciting talks and presentations at our amphitheater on Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights! Keep your eyes peeled for great guided hiking opportunities, and be sure to spot our kid's programs including Junior Naturalist activities and sing-alongs!

Road Construction to Begin Tuesday, May 28th!
The Visitor Center, located atop Big View Overlook, features a scenic panoramic overlook hidden below the shadow of Pikes Peak. In the heart of Mueller State Park, this information area features indoor and outdoor exhibits emphasizing the park's natural habitats, wildlife and heritage. Visit the Watchable Wildlife Kiosk and learn about those who call Mueller home. At the Gazebo, hand painted panels of the surrounding mountains help you get your bearings before heading out on the Wapiti Nature Trail.
Three trailheads from the Visitor Center parking lot connect you to short family friendly or long connecting hikes. Don't forget to pick up a trail map before you head out!
Beginning on Tuesday, May 28th, our main road will be under construction for re-paving from the campground entrance to the highway entrance. This much-needed work is expected to be completed by mid-July.
During construction hours (7a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday & 7a.m.-3p.m. Friday) the road will be open with only 1 lane; please expect 15-30 minute delays during the construction. Please note, no construction will be done on the weekends.
The Visitors Center Parking Lot will also be re-paved. During this part of the construction, the Visitors Center Parking Lot will be completely closed and visitors will be asked to park in the Outlook Ridge Parking Lot and/or the Preacher's Hollow Parking Lot. We will know specific dates for this closure once the project is underway; please stay tuned for further updates.
