Chatfield State Park
Chatfield Boating

Float your boat in the lake, bicycle or hike on a trail that provides scenic views of the neighboring foothills and Platte River valley,  camp, ride a horse and even fly a model airplane - all at Chatfield State Park, nestled next to the foothills southwest of Denver.
Boaters of all types – from water skiers to fishing enthusiasts to canoeists and sailors - enjoy Chatfield Reservoir’s waters. Boat rentals, a floating restaurant and a marina are also available at Chatfield. Get Colorado boating registration and regulation information by clicking here .

Campers have their choice of 197 campsites all with electrical hookups and many with full hookups (water, sewer and electric), in four campgrounds at Chatfield. All campsites are within walking distance to the lake and have picnic tables and grills. Facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, laundry, centrally located water, fire ring and a sanitary waste station.  In addition to the 197 single-family campsites offered at Chatfield, there are ten reservable Group Camping sites available.  Please call the Park Office at (303) 791-7275 for more information or to reserve a Group campsite.

Enjoy Chatfield's Trails
Chatfield is open for camping

On Chatfield's trails, you can escape the boredom of the gym by taking  a morning jog, exploring natural areas that border  the reservoir, leisurely pedaling your bicycle through the park, or riding a horse into the sunset. Trail maps are available at the park's main entrances.

Water Storage
The Chatfield Reservoir Storage Reallocation Study is the name given to the federal study currently underway to assess the feasibility of reallocating some of the storage space in Chatfield Reservoir. On June 8th, 2012 the Corp of Engineers rereleased the Draft Chatfield Reservoir Storage Reallocation Feasibility Report /Environmental Impact Statement (FR/EIS). For more information on the reallocation project, public comment opportunities and to view the document please click here. For more information, please visit www.chatfieldstudy.org

When visitors see Chatfield's beautiful rolling foothills, expansive reservoir and abundant wildlife, they can't believe the park is located just outside the Denver metro area.  Our campground has full service sites available offering water, sewer and electric hookups or sites with electric only.   Over thirty sites have new detached tent pads.   Reservations are highly recommended for camping at Chatfield.

Ongoing Construction Projects
Visitors will frequently encounter ongoing construction or maintenance operations at Chatfield State Park. Please use caution near these operations and various types of equipment and follow directional signs to ensure the safety of all visitors and park personnel.  At present there are two major projects at the North end of the park which will impact the Dog Off Leash area and bicycle traffic on the main park road.  As soon as April 17 we will begin a road construction project to straighten, widen with bike lanes, and repave the section of roadway from the top of the dam to the Cottonwood Grove parking area.  As with our previous road construction projects, one lane of the roadway will remain open to move motorized traffic.  However, during this construction, due to safety concerns, all bicycle traffic will be detoured to the trail system at all hours, day or night, regardless of active construction operations.  The bicycle detours will be located at the trail entrance across from the North boat ramp access road and at the pedestrian/bicycle bridge over the South Platte River near Marcy Gulch.  This detour will be in place for the duration of the project which is expected to be completed by June 30th.

Concurrently, a trail improvement project will begin to reroute the current concrete trail which enters the Cottonwood Grove picnic area parking lot to an intersection with the main park road to the east of the Stevens Grove parking area.  The new trail section will be integrated with existing trail from the "Y" intersection near the pedestrian/bicycle bridge and pass to the north of the picnic area.  This reroute should resolve safety issues and bicycle/vehicle conflicts associated with the congested parking area, and improve the quality of the picnic area experience.
