Camping - 5/19/2012
A park pass is required for each vehicle in addition to a camping permit. Early Settlers campground is open with water and electric hook ups and the cost is $20.00 per night. The shower building is now open. Oak Point and Aspen Grove campgrounds are open with centrally located water. The dump station is open at this time. You can reserve campsites, cabins and the Group Picnic Area 6 months in advance. To reserve a site call 1-800-678-2267 or if in the Denver area call (303)470-1144. **CABINS** Why not rent a cozy cabin instead of camping? Five rustic, heated cabins are available year round that will sleep up to 6 people for only $70 a night. For more info on Vega's cabins, check out the cabins link on this web site. Fishing Report - 5/20/2012
Fishing is very good at Vega. Rainbows are being caught daily in the 14 - 18 inch range with Power Bait, worms, salmon eggs and Panther Martins. Please remember to stop at the entrance station and/or visitor's center and have your boat inspected prior to launching.
Hunting - 5/19/2012
Vega is open for hunting by archery and shotguns loaded with bird-shot, starting the first Tuesday after Labor Day through the Friday before Memorial Day, during established hunting seasons set by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Many people camp or stay in a cabin at Vega and then hunt on the adjacent Grand Mesa National Forest. PLEASE OBSERVE ALL RULES ASSOCIATED WITH HUNTING IN THE PARK. You must be 100 yards from any structure or developed area such as campgrounds and picnic areas, boat ramps or nature trails, and 50 feet from the centerline of any road before shooting. Park Entrance - 5/19/2012
The Entrance Station is open. For Annual Park Passes or OHV and Boat Registrations, the Vega Visitor Center is open from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm every day. Purchase Annual or Daily Park Passes, Fishing and Hunting Licenses, Camping and Cabin Permits, Boat and OHV Registrations, and some great nature-related gifts, shirts and jackets at the Park Visitor Center and Gift Shop.
Road Conditions - 5/20/2012
The gravel south road is open. The speed limit is 20 mph in the park. This is to protect wildlife and park visitors. Off road vehicle use is strictly prohibited, and all vehicles are required to stay on designated roads and parking areas. Park Creek Road (USFS #262)is open.
Trails - 5/19/2012
Vega's trails are all non-motorized and open for hiking, cross-country sking, and snow shoeing only---no horses or ATV's are ever permitted on any trails inside Vega State Park. There are hundreds of miles of trails adjacent to Vega at the Grand Mesa National Forest for OHVs and horseback riding. Snowmobiles or OHVs may be ridden from the OHV staging area and from Vega's Pioneer cabins or the Early Settler's campground to the Grand Mesa National Forest trail system via USFS #262 (AKA: Park Creek Rd.) Be sure to have a State Park Day or Annual Pass on your vehicle while parked in the OHV lot adjacent to Park Creek Road or anywhere else in the park.
