Planning Process
The “Blueprint” for Staunton State Park
Preserving the natural amenities of the site while allowing access by the public were the primary instructions contained in Frances Staunton’s will. This direction aligns perfectly with the goals and objectives of the State Parks system. All development taking place in Staunton State Park was carefully planned and publically vetted during the Master Planning process. The Master Plan, approved in January 2010, provides the blueprint for Park development and use. Public feedback on the Master Plan at Open Houses and in written comments was overwhelmingly positive, indicating that there is strong support for the Park’s plan from the community and from stakeholders such as hikers, climbers, bike riders, and horseback riders.
