Boating at Navajo State Park
Navajo Reservoir’s 15,000 surface acres of water are a haven to all types of boaters: those with power boats, personal watercraft, sailboats and sailboards. Houseboats often dock here and cruise the 35-mile-long lake in Colorado and New Mexico. Boaters with valid boat registrations in either state can travel the entire lake. Anglers who fish in both states must have valid fishing licenses from both states. For your convenience the Visitor Center sells both New Mexico and Colorado fishing licenses.
See Colorado State Parks' Boating Program for state boat registration requirements
.
Navajo State Park's boat ramp is one of the longest in the state: it extends 110 feet down to the river channel. The park offers a variety of marina services at
Two Rivers Marina
. Although there are no boat rentals available at Navajo at this time, Two Rivers Marina is a popular place to moor houseboats and sailboats. Swimming is permitted in the lake, even though there is no swim beach.
Winter Boating
Navajo is open for boating year-round, however prior arrangements for launching must be made at least 24 hours in advance at 970-883-2208. Because of its location in extreme southwestern Colorado, the main part of the reservoir never freezes; only thin sheets of ice form in the shallow areas occasionally in January or February. In the winter, call the park at (970) 883-2208 for ramp conditions. The Two Rivers Marina phone number is (970)883-BOAT (2628), or visit the
Two Rivers Marina Web page
for additional information.
