Mancos yurts

Yurts at MancosBook Now

Mancos State Park has two yurts to provide visitors with an alternative to RV and tent camping.  Yurts, reminiscent of tents used by nomads on the steppes of Mongolia and Siberia, are round tents on a wooden frame with circular skylights and windows to provide illumination. View Mancos Yurt Brochure.

Mancos' yurts, located at sites 22 and 24, are available for rent year-round by reservation or on a first-come, first-served basis for up to two nights at a time. Yurts can be reserved in advance through the reservation system on the website or by calling 1-800-678-2267 or (303) 470-1144 inside the Denver metro area. Call the park office for more reservation information.

Both yurts at Mancos have a wooden lattice wall and ceiling. They are nicely complemented with a wooden door, pinewood floors, a ceiling light/fan and a screened skylight in the center of the domed roof. Three large screened windows, a skylight and a ceiling fan keep these ultra-modern tents cool and comfortable in the summer, while the insulated walls and propane heater/gas-log fireplace keep them warm and cozy in the winter.

Each yurt will sleep up to six people. Bed space includes one pair of twin-sized bunks, a double-sized futon and a queen-sized futon. When folded up, the futon beds provide additional seating. You will need to bring your own bedding, such as sleeping bags and/or sheets, blankets and pillows. A propane gas heater is available for heat.

There is a small, round table and four chairs inside the yurt.

Just outside each yurt near the front porch/deck are a picnic table, an elevated barbecue grill and a ground-level campfire ring. Cooking should be done outside but is permitted inside the yurts during bad weather. When cooking inside, please open the windows to allow for plenty of ventilation and avoid frying foods.

Only stoves, lanterns or other appliances designed for indoor use may be used inside. Each yurt has electrical outlets and a ceiling light. Please do not attempt to cook on the gas heater! To discourage animals from entering, the area must be kept clean, and all food should be stored in hard containers. You will need to bring your own cooking and eating utensils.

There is no running water inside the yurts; however, drinking water is available year-round at a nearby hydrant. Vault type toilets are available year-round.
