Boat Ramps

March 1 to September 30 is boating season at Highline and Mack Mesa Lakes, weather and ice conditions permitting. Boat ramps are located at the east and west sides of Highline Lake, and docks are in the water during the boating season.

Camper Services Building

Located in the center of the Campground, the Camper Services Building is open year-round, with coin-operated, pressurized hot showers and updated restroom equipment. In the laundry room are coin-operated washers and dryers.

Campgrounds

You'll soon find that one day at Highline Lake just isn’t enough! Camping here allows more time for a family reunion, mountain biking with the gang, exploring the area or escaping to the beauty of nature. Lush turf grass and mature shade trees create an oasis for camping, including a nighttime canopy of stars to soothe the soul. Water hydrants, showers, laundry and dump station are available. Reservations are strongly suggested for weekends March through October, as the campsites go quickly. Visit the Highline Lake State Park web pages to choose a campsite.

Duck Blinds

During waterfowl season, there are seven blinds available to hunters at Highline, and hunting must be done from one of the blinds. Check the conditions page for hunting information during waterfowl season. During the summer blinds are a great place to catch wildlife with a camera!

Dump Station

The dump station is located in the campground, near the camp host sites.

Entrance Station

There are two entrance stations. The East Gate leads to the Visitor's Center, the east boat ramp, the campground, the group area, the swim beach, and the picnic areas on the east side of the park. The West Gate leads to the west boat ramp, nature overlook, duck blinds, Uintah fishing access, and Mack Mesa. Please stop at all stop signs. Passes may be purchased from machines at either entrance or from visitor center and gate entrance staff during business hours. Visa and Mastercard are accepted at the visitor center and automated machines entrance at both entrances. Parks passes must be attached to each vehicle in the park!

Group Campground

Group tent camping for up to 100 persons is available by reservation, typically March through October. Great for tent camping, this area includes modern restrooms, water, covered shelter, large grill, electricity, fire ring, volleyball and net, and horseshoe pit with horseshoes. There are no RVs allowed in the Group Area! Reservations for this area go quickly; reserve your special date as soon as possible! Group Picnic Area

For up to 150 people, this outdoor facility is ideal for fun business or family functions during the season, typically March through October. There’s a large fire grill, covered eating area, modern restrooms, water and electricity, volleyball net and volleyball, and horseshoe pit with horseshoes. Reservations are required, and dates go very quickly; reserve your special date as soon as possible! Call 970.858.7208 or email highline.park@state.co.us to reserve the area.

Picnic Sites

Choose from 44 family picnic sites with grills, some on turf with shade trees, others under shade cabanas in the sand and on the lakeshores. All picnic sites not in the group area are first-come first-served, so large groups should consider arriving early in the day.

A Children's Playground area is located in the Day Use area of the park, near picnicking and swimming areas.

Retail Store

Located in the Visitor Center at Highline Lake, the retail store offers a variety of not only reminders of park visits, but bags of ice and nightcrawlers during the season! Check out the t-shirts, 1/4 zip fleece jackets and caps - all with Highline Lake's own unique logos. We have books for all ages, paperback and hardback, on a huge variety of subjects, fiction and non-fiction! Also usually available are 3-D puzzles, 7-in-one tools, nature-based card games, wood dominoes and photo cubes to occupy everyone (or the kid in everyone), in any weather! Our selection of items changes regularly, so stop by and see what we have today - you'll be surprised! All clothing is currently 30% off!

Showers

Coin-operated, hot showers are available year-round in the Camper Services Building. There's nothing like a nice, hot shower after a day of fishing, hiking or biking, and the shower pressure is great!

Swim Beach

Typically open May through September, the buoyed-off swim beach is located on the east side of the park, near the boat beach and the shaded, grassy picnic area. With plenty of sand and a gradual increase in the water depth, the area is very popular! Water temperatures range from the 60s to the 80s, and the water is always refreshing.

Trails

Hike or bike the 3.5 mile Highline Lake Trail, the world famous 7+ mile "18 Hour Trail," or connect with several trail loops within the park. The newest addition to the trail system is a winding loop skirting the lake bluffs on the northwest edge of Highline Lake - it adds a bit of new interest to the 18 Hour Ride! Within minutes of the park are miles of additional world-class trails such as Kokopelli and North Fruita Desert Area, great for hiking and biking enthusiasts. Stop at the visitor center for all of the trail maps!

Enjoy one-stop-shopping at Highline Lake's visitor center! In addition to purchasing all required passes, visitors can purchase OHV, boat and snowmobile registrations and renewals, as well as fishing and hunting licenses. Our retail store features an ever-changing variety of items! Check out T-shirts, fleece jackets, caps, fishing shirts and other clothing items embossed with our new Highline Lake logos! Our book selection is varied and we have a nice selection of games for all ages! Pick up nightcrawlers and 10 or 20 pound bags of ice, during the season!
