Fishing Report - 4/17/2012
South Boulder Creek is open and fishing is prime! Water levels are good for fishing between the visitor center and the vehicle bridge. You must possess a valid Colorado fishing license if you are age sixteen or older. A creek habitat restoration project has deepened the channel from the Visitor Center to the the car bridge; this has created a better habitat for larger trout.
Hunting - 4/17/2012
Hunting is allowed in the Crescent Meadows portion of the park south of the Crescent Meadows Trail. Opportunities include: mule deer, wild turkey, blue grouse, and other big and small game species. According to Colorado State Parks regulations and our park regulations, you can hunt in the appropriate seasons from the Tuesday after Labor Day through March 31st. We only allow primitive weapons, including hand-held bows (no crossbows), shotguns loaded with birdshot, and muzzle-loading rifles (no trapping). The appropriate license is necessary depending on what you are hunting and all Colorado State bag and possession limits apply.
Park Entrance - 4/17/2012
A valid State Parks Pass is required every day of the year. When the entrance station is not attended, please use the self-service station on the right side of the road to purchase your $8 daily vehicle pass or $3 walk-in pass.
Road Conditions - 4/17/2012
The park's only road is narrow and winding in areas. Please drive no faster than 15 mph and watch out for pedestrians! Remember that traffic traveling uphill has the right-of-way.
Seasonal Closures - 4/17/2012
Thank you climbers for your willingness to share with nature. To protect nesting and roosting sites of Prairie Falcons, parts of the Redgarden Wall from the Naked Edge (pitch 3 – top) through Sidetrack are closed from February 1st through July 31st. A new seasonal closure has been issued for the upper loop of the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail due to nesting eagles. The trail will remain closed until mid-July. Please contact the park office for further details. Thank you for playing your part by protecting these spectacular birds BEFORE they become threatened or endangered.
Trails - 4/17/2012
Both the Eldorado Canyon Trail and the Fowler Trail are open and in good condition for hiking. The Rattlesnake Gulch Trail is partially open. A A new seasonal closure has been issued for the upper loop of the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail due to nesting eagles. The trail will remain closed until mid-July. Please contact the park office for further details. Please wear sunblock and bring water to drink when hiking. Remember the park closes at sunset, plan your day accordingly. The Fowler trail is wheelchair and stroller accessible; the Rattle Snake Gulch trail allows mountain bikes; the Eldorado Canyon trail allows horses.
