Road Conditions
-
5/5/2013 |
Spring road conditions in the park can quickly change from clear and dry to wet, muddy, icy or snowpacked when a spring storm comes through. With changing weather conditions there is also an increased chance of loose rocks or ice falling from the canyon walls so use caution. Check with the park office (303-494-3943) if there has been a heavy snow to learn current conditions. Note, the road in the town of Eldorado Springs leading into the park is especially bumpy so caution is advised. Remember that traffic traveling uphill has the right-of-way.

Rock Climbing
-
5/5/2013 |
Climbing is inherently dangerous: loose rock, suspect protection placements, long run-outs and many other hazards are part of the rock climbing experience in Eldorado Canyon. Unstable conditions resulting from spring weather will increase the chances of rock and/or ice falls. Current Climbing Condition Log:
The Bastille Crack, Pitch 3: Loose flake. Condition has been investigated but not mitigated: the flake does move but does not seem to be an imminent threat to pull out. Caution is advised.
Shirt Tail Peak Gully: Loose rock. Loose rock may exist throughout the park but particular caution should be exercised in the Shirt Tail Peak Gully.
To report a condition you feel is a change in the character of a climbing route, please stop by the Entrance Station or Visitors Center, contact a ranger or call 303-494-3943.
See below for seasonal wildlife closures.

Trails
-
5/5/2013 |
Spring conditions on the park trails can range from clear to snowpacked, muddy and slushy. Trail conditions can change quickly with spring storms and can increase the chance of rock/ice falls so be prepared when you hike. The Eldorado Canyon Trail has a largely southern exposure so will be the first to clear.
