Visitors can wander through short-grass prairies, Gambel oak woodlands and Ponderosa pine/Douglas fir forests. There are 16 trails to explore with 20 miles of hiking, biking and wildlife-viewing opportunities. The trail map shows where to find these easy to moderate park trails.
Please, to protect the parks fragile eco-systems, pets, horses and smoking are not permitted on the trails.

Come participate in our award-winning Cheyenne Mountain State Park Junior Ranger Program.
We also offer many other educational and interpretive programs, including: children's activities, guided hikes, wildlife interpretive programs and more. Please check the monthly schedule link on the Cheyenne Mountain home page or call the park for more information.

Geocaching

Hit the trails with a high-tech treasure hunt. Combining gadgets and nature, geocaching is a fun and exciting way to explore the park's trails and generous open space. Several caches are hidden in the park with clues posted on the internet. GPS users use the parks cache coordinates found at www.geocaching.com. GPS units are available for rental at the park Visitor Center. We offer some GPS/Geocaching instructional programs. Check out our park calendar of events for the next session.

Group Picnicking

The Prairie Skipper outdoor event facility will accommodate 200 people and has parking for 85 vehicles; it includes a pavilion with electric service, picnic tables, restrooms, an activity area and a parking area. Reservations are necessary and a fee is required for use. Reservations are accepted through the Cheyenne Mountain State Park Visitor Center.

Picnicking

There are 41 day-use picnic sites complete with table and grill. Peak-to-valley views compliment each site. Picnic sites are available first come first served.
