Chatfield State Park Dog Off-Leash Area

Our Dog Off-Leash Area provides 69 acres of open space for your dogs to exercise, including two ponds and miles of paved and unpaved walking trails.  Please have your dog under voice control when off leash, and remember to bring a leash and waste bag for each dog.  There is a limit of 3 dogs per handler.

As of January 1st, 2011, new regulations and a fee structure will apply to the Dog Off-Leash Area pursuant to the findings of the Colorado State Parks Dog Off-Leash Area Review and Colorado State Parks Board actions of the Fall of 2010.

In addition to a valid Park Pass required for every vehicle entering the park:
  • A valid Dog Off-Leash Area (DOLA) Daily OR Annual pass is required for the use of the area.  Both the $2 Daily DOLA Pass and the $20 Annual DOLA Pass are available at the Entrance Stations and the Park Office when staffed.
  • $2 Daily Self-Service DOLA Passes are also available at the Owl Glenn and Steven’s Grove Parking Areas.  Please bring exact change or check.
The boundary fencing, access points, and trail improvements project did not begin until this past fall.  This project is now 90% complete with designated access points at the Owl Glenn and Stevens Grove parking lots. The fencing encompasses the entire 69 acre off leash area.  New crusher fine trail sections have been added to accommodate the boundary fence, and existing trails have been improved with crusher fine surfaces to complete the loop trail system.  Re-vegetation of disturbed areas, final touches, and cleanup will not be completed until the weather moderates in March.  Improvements to the restroom facilities to enable year round use are planned for this spring.

With the completion of the fencing and designated access points visitors are reminded to leash their dogs when exiting vehicles and remain leashed until inside the fenced off leash area.  When leaving the off leash area, dogs must be leashed from the access points to the vehicle.

We invite you to socialize your pets, but aggressive behavior is not permitted and you are required to remove wastes from your dog.

Use of the Upland Sport Dog Training Area and the Flat Water Sport Dog Training Area require a Special Activity Permit.  Please contact Keith Kahler for further information.
