Waterfowl Hunting at Boyd Lake State Park

Waterfowl hunting is permitted at the Park during the seasons set by the Colorado Division of Wildlife, but only with a valid Colorado D.O.W. waterfowl hunting license. Hunting is only allowed within set "Red Zone" hunting areas. Click here for "Red Zone" map & statutes. Contact the Park Office for more information at 970-669-1739.

"Duck & Coot " Season (Central Flyway Mountain/Foothills Zone):

Area: West Of I-25 and east Of Continental Divide, except El Paso, Pueblo, Huerfano and Las Animas Counties

First Split - September 29, 2012 through -November 25, 2012
Second Split - December 21, 2012 through January 27, 2013

Limits:
Ducks
: Daily Bag Limit: 6, Excluding Mergansers. of these, up to 5 can be Mallards, but no more than 2 can be female mallards. Also included in the daily bag limit of 6, you can have no more than 2 pintails, 1 canvasback, 2 redheads and 3 wood ducks. 
 
Coots: 15
 
Mergansers: 5, only 2 can be hooded mergansers.

POSSESSION LIMIT: 2 DAILY BAG LIMITS 

"Goose" Season:

NORTHERN FRONT RANGE SEASON Areas: Boulder, Larimer and Weld counties from the Continental Divide east along the Wyoming border to Hwy. 85, south on Hwy. 85 to Adams Co. line, and all of Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, Gilpin and Jefferson counties.

Dark Geese - September 29, 2012 through October 14, 2012
                        November 17 2012 throug February 10, 2013

Daily Bag Limit: 4 Possession Limit: 8

Light Geese - October 27, 2012 through February 10, 2013

20 light geese. Possession limit: Unlimited

Youth Hunt

Hunting is restricted to youths age 17 and younger with a mentor. Mentor cannot hunt during youth seasons. A youth small game license is $1, plus surcharge. All youth must meet hunter education requirements. Mentors must be 18 or older and must meet hunter education requirements. Youth and mentor must be able to see and hear each other without binoculars, radios or other aids while hunting. At age 18, hunters must buy an adult license.

BAG AND POSSESSION LIMITS FOR ALL ZONES IN CENTRAL FLYWAY – DUCKS, COOTS, and MERGANSERS: (Daily bag and possession limits are the same as regular Central Flyway regulations)

Statutes and Regulations

All Colorado Parks and Wildlife State Laws and Regulations are in effect. You are responsible for knowing those that apply to you. Among those are:

  1. Hunt within the designated RED ZONE boundaries only.  These boundaries are marked on the map in red and at the hunting site with red posts and/or red and white signs.  The water line is a boundary.  You may put decoys out, but you may not hunt from the water.  Areas are first come, first served – no reservations.
     
  2. Firearms must be unloaded outside the Red Zone area. Load weapons only when in position and ready to hunt inside Red Zone.  Unload before returning to vehicle. 
     
  3. Do not drive into the Red Zone.  Vehicles are not allowed off of the asphalt roadways and parking lots.  You must walk all of your hunting equipment down to the site.
     
  4. Shoot only during legal shooting hours.  You may hunt from ½ hour before sunrise until ½ hour after sunset.
     
  5. Do NOT shoot to the west or in the direction of boaters.
     
  6. Have all proper licenses current and available for inspection.  You must posses all current necessary licenses and stamps
     
  7. Only NON-TOXIC shot is allowed.  You cannot use or have in your possession lead shot while hunting waterfowl.
