Dog Off-Leash Areas
Colorado State Parks recently initiated a new pass for dog off-leash areas at
Cherry Creek and
Chatfield State Parks to minimize user conflicts and promote resource protection. The designated off-leash areas resp
ond to a requirement by the land owner, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to develop plans for fenced dog exercise areas to ensure responsible and sustainable use of the land and water. The two dog off-leash areas at Chatfield State Park and Cherry Creek State Park are the largest designated dog off-leash areas in the Denver metropolitan area.
Effective January 1, 2011, the Dog Off-Leash Pass is required for the Dog Off-Leash Areas at Chatfield and Cherry Creek State Parks. Park
entrance passes are additional.
A $2 per day pass allows one handler to bring in up to three dogs and may be purchased at Cherry Creek and Chatfield State Parks. Passes will be available at Park Entrance Stations, Visitor Centers, and Self Service Stations starting January 1, 2011. Off-Leash Pass must be kept with the person handling the dog(s) and available for ranger inspection upon request.
An annual pass for $20 per year allows one handler from a household to bring up to three dogs at a time. This pass may be purchased at Cherry Creek and Chatfield State Parks, is valid for 12 months from date of purchase, and will expire on the last day of the same month the following year. Annual Dog Off-Leash Passes will be be available at Chatfield and Cherry Creek Entrance Stations and Visitor Centers starting January 1, 2011.
Annual Dog Off-Leash Passes must be displayed visibly at all times on the dog handler when in the Dog Off-Leash Areas.
