Roxborough Volunteers

The next training to become a Volunteer Naturalist will be held in 2015!
Be sure to call and get on the list to be invited to the  open house in February 2015.

Our Volunteers at Roxborough State Park enjoy its unique beauty as they share it with others. Volunteers receive a comprehensive 4-week training course to prepare them for leading school and scout groups that visit the park and assisting the public. Some of our Volunteers also do outreach education where they travel to the schools. If you are interested in learning more about our volunteer program contact Angel Tobin at 303 973-3959 X15 or angel.tobin@state.co.us.

The Volunteer Naturalist program at Roxborough State Park has been in existence for over 25 years. This skilled group is involved in just about every aspect of the park and is essential in accomplishing the mission of Roxborough and Colorado Parks & Wildlife.

Meet our Volunteer Naturalists, they offer a wealth of knowledge, a contagious enthusiasm and true passion for our park. Join them on guided hikes or stop and talk with them while they are hiking the trails, and get your questions answered. When they aren’t helping the visitors, they are working hard on monitoring and improving the park itself.

With the Vegetative Regrowth Monitoring Project, there are about 50 1-meter square plots in which teams of volunteers are monitor the effect of the land after the fuel mitigation done in 2008. They record what plants are coming back after the dead scrub oak was cleared.

The Park needs constant upkeep, which is why we have volunters come out during the summer and work on trail improvement, corridor clearing, and invasive weed removal. Once a week throughout the summer both of these activities are up for grabs to participants from our group of Volunteer Naturalists as well as anyone else willing to help out in the public. Call 303 973-3959 to sign up to help.

Roxborough State Park is a treasured resource and home to a unique diversity of plants and animals.  The Park is designated a State Natural Area a National Natural Landmark and a National Archaeological District.
