Boat Ramps - 4/25/2013 Boat Ramps are open and docks are out on both lakes. Boating - 4/25/2013 BOATING SEASON has begun. All boats entering and leaving the park are required to get an inspection at the park entrance in order to prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species. The inspection station is open from sunrise to sunset seven days a week through October 15th. From sunset to sunrise all boat ramps are closed. If entering the park after inspection hours, an inspection is required the following morning before launch. *Inspection Hours: Seven days a week sunrise to sunset from April 15th - October 15th. Camping - 4/25/2013 Campground sites are now available on a first come basis. Walk-ins are welcome and sites should be available. Pinon Campground offers electrical hookups, water to fill your tank with, and a dump station. Pay showers are available. Yucca Campground is un-improved, but has vault toilets and water hydrants available. Cell Phone Coverage - 1/26/2013 Most major carriers have good to excellent service in this area. Construction - 5/1/2012 Fall Colors - 3/28/2013 Fire Restrictions - 1/26/2013 Fires allowed in established fire rings. Fishing Report - 5/19/2013 The trout are biting, and provide a fairly easy catch if you take a boat out. Most people are using pink or yellow power baits, with a few crawlers as well. The muskie have started to bite, and we have seen quite a few pulled in, in the last week. The pike bite has slowed down a bit, but should pick up as the weather warms up. A few catfish are being caught in the late night, or early morning hours along the north side of Horseshoe using chicken liver. The water is sitting around 62 degrees on both lakes. Hunting - 1/26/2013 Hunting is allowed around Horseshoe Lake except for restricted areas from the Tuesday after Labor Day through the Friday prior to Memorial Day. A handlaunched boat without a motor may be used on Horseshoe Lake for placing decoys and retrieving birds. Hunting is allowed for small game and waterfowl species either using shotgun with bird shot or bow. Check the Division of Wildlife hunting regulations for exact dates and details. Icing Conditions - 3/28/2013 All ice is off both lakes. Seasonal Closures - 4/25/2013 Lakes are closed to boating from October 15 until April 15, each year, except for hand launched boats. See Hunting Conditions for further information on boating restrictions. Swim beach is closed until Memorial Day weekend 2013. Spring Colors - 3/28/2013 Spring colors should start about May 1. We have had consistent moisture this spring which should encourage blooms. Trails - 1/26/2013 Cuerno Verde Trail is a 2.9 mile paved loop around Martin Lake, which is accessible for walking or bicycling. BE ALERT: Asphalt is cracked and rough in spots, so please use extra caution to prevent accidents. The two-mile Hogback Trail Loop is open. A 1/2 mile trail is open that connects the amphitheater in Pinon Campground to the Hogback Trail Loop. Water Levels - 3/28/2013 Water levels in Martin and Horseshoe are slightly below average. Water Temperature - 5/19/2013 Water Temp is about 62 degrees in both lakes
