Activities

Boating - 2/22/2011
The lake is closed to boating November 1 through March 31 - Harvey Gap is a great lake for small boats. Motor boats must use motors that are 20 horsepower or less. Sailing and canoeing are popular too. You must carry an appropriately-sized life jacket for each person on board your boat. Children 12 and under must wear their life jackets at all times while on board the vessel. A boat ramp is located at the northern entrance of the park. View Harvey Gap map. See the Colorado Boating Program Web site for information on boat registration and regulations.
Cross-country Skiing - 2/22/2011
Winter is coming for snowshoeing!! There are no groomed trails around the lake but the area is fun to explore. Short climbs and short downhills make this area fun for all levels of skiers.
Education Programs - 2/22/2011
Interpretive programs are available at Rifle Gap and Rifle Falls State Parks generally starting in May through September. Please contact the park office at 970-625-1607 for further information.

Fishing at Harvey Gap is good during the summer and the winter. You can take catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, perch, crappie, rainbow trout and northern pike. Boats with motors 20 hp or less and manual powered are welcome. Remember to bring life jackets and a valid fishing license. Check Conditions for current fishing conditions.
Hunting - 2/22/2011

Ice Fishing - 2/22/2011
Always use caution when fishing on the ice and be sure to fish with a buddy. No one will believe the record catch otherwise!! We have seen a few fishermen out on the ice already, but not many! Ice conditions have not improved much, and ice thickness remains extremely variable from place to place. Open water is still present all along the west side of the lake. Use caution!
Picnicking - 3/16/2012
Take in the beautiful views while you eat close to the water at Harvey Gap. The park has 30 picnic sites with grills. Many sites are in the shade. Please remember that fires are permitted only in the grills. The picnic areas have trash cans and restrooms. The picnic sites are available on first come, first serve basis. A group picnic site is available nearby at Rifle Gap State Park, which is six miles west of Harvey Gap. PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT HARVEY GAP. The park closes at 10 p.m. Please see the Harvey Gap map for locations.
Snowshoeing - 2/22/2011
Harvey Gap offers a great opportunity to make your own trails. There is no designated trail system so use your imagination.
Swimming - 2/22/2011
In the summer, the Harvey Gap Swim Beach is a great place to beat the heat. You will find the beach at the south entrance to the park. The day use fee is $7.00. The beach has shaded picnic tables with grills, trash cans and restrooms. Pets and glass containers are not permitted on the beach. There is no lifeguard, so swimming is at your own risk.
