Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is critical to every facet of the Stewardship Section and is vital for planning and monitoring. GIS is a powerful tool for viewing, tracking and planning for resources over time. GIS is more than simple map-making. It combines a map and a database so that there is crucial information backing up every layer on the image.
GIS is great for field staff to find their way through the backcountry, as well as to make accurate maps for the public. GIS is a major component of our development planning process, threatened and endangered species review process, maintenance tracking and large event planning.
